Climate, Weather and Flying Conditions

George's climate is typically moderate. It could be termed mild in the true sense of the word. It does not have Kwazulu-Natal's humidity nor Cape Town's long wet winters. George also isn't as windy as Port Elizabeth and East London. The days are normally calm between February and June with lots of sunny days and cool evenings. Generally the flying conditions in George are pleasant all year round. There is no undue flying congestion and fortunately very few aviation restrictions.

George from the air

It is a malaria free area. The only thing one could expect to catch is a lovely tan at one of the golden beaches in our area. Rainfall occurs year round but is mostly in the winter. Average temperatures in winter are maximum 20°C and in summer 28°C. Seldom does the temperature fall below 7°C in winter.

South African Weather Bureau statistics show that George enjoys as much sunshine as any other part of the South African coastline. It is in fact one of the most temperate climates in the world.

Oudtshoorn

Our base in Oudtshoorn lies 55 kilometers north of George across the Outeniqua mountain range. This results in a notably drier and more temperate climate. Summer conditions are excellent for gliding and winters are mostly clear and turbulence free for excellent cross country navigation exercises.
